Effect on the properties of a moderately leached Pardo mullido soil from potting mixes prepared with soil and Agromenas-G
Main Article Content
Abstract
Context: Agromenas-G is an organo-mineral fertilizer made from zeolite and organic matter, marketed by Empresa Geominera del Centro in Cuba. However, few scientific studies have examined its effect on soil properties.
Objective: To evaluate the effects of soil mixtures and Agromenas-G on the properties of a moderately leached Pardo mullido soil.
Methods: Four treatments were prepared i.e. mixtures of 100 g, 150 g, and 200 g of Agromenas-G to 1 kg of soil, as well as a control treatment with soil only). Plasticity, stable aggregates, permeability, pH (H2O), pH (KCl), assimilable P, and organic matter content were evaluated.
Results: It was found that as the ratio of organic to mineral fertilizer in the mixture increased, the upper plasticity limit (UPL) and plasticity index values decreased, with significant differences between treatments. The pH (H2O), pH (KCl), and assimilable P are influenced by the addition of Agromenas-G, with increases in pH (H2O) and decreases in pH (KCl) and assimilable P as the proportion of fertilizer in the mixture increased, the latter apparently influenced by the effects on pH. Five significant correlations were found, and the simple regressions showed that the plasticity limits were the most modified variables by the addition of Agromenas-G.
Conclusions: The use of Agromenas-G organo-mineral fertilizer in mixtures significantly influences the LSP, soil reaction, and the availability of assimilable P.
