Technical-economic characterization of corn (Zea mays) producers with emphasis on disease management in the department of Meta, Colombia
Main Article Content
Abstract
The increase in phytosanitary problems faced by corn producers in the department of Meta has generated the need to identify the management that each producer carries out on his crop. In this way, it is possible to determine the factors that differentiate producers and the technological gaps that must be overcome in the extension and technical assistance plans, so the objective of this work was to characterize the technified corn production system, from the point of view of phytosanitary management. This work used a sample of 45 producers, selected by stratified random sampling with allocation proportional to the size of the stratum, to whom a survey was applied that allowed grouping by means of principal component analysis, multiple correspondences and conglomerates. With the results obtained, the following typologies were defined: 1) older adult producers with medium farms of high productivity, 2) adult producers with small farms of high productivity, 3) adult producers with small farms of low productivity and 4) adult producers with large farms of medium productivity. The relevant aspects in each typology were defined, allowing the design of work and research plans in the sanitary component of the crop in the region according to each one of them.
