Energy efficiency of the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) in “El Jobo” Farm, Camajuaní municipality, province of Villa Clara
Main Article Content
Abstract
The experiment was carried out at the “El Jobo” farm in the
municipality of Camajuaní, in the province of Villa Clara, with the
objective of determining the energy efficiency of a common bean
cultivar. To fulfill this objective, the energy equivalents of the
inputs and outputs of the system were used. Direct (fuel) and
indirect (pesticides, seeds, human and animal labor) energy
sources were taken into account. The results showed that the
cultivar ‘CUL-156’ was very energy efficient with a value of 4.64.
The greatest amounts of energy consumed were contributed by
chemical synthesis products (diesel and herbicides).
